Masking for repairs and resprays: crêpe masking tapes
For paint preparation, repairs and respray work, crêpe masking tapes are the foundation of every workshop. The crêpe paper backing gives the tape elasticity, allowing it to follow curves, contours and rounded edges without tearing. Our automotive range comprises three performance levels:
- Standard: SCP8003RS (yellow). For everyday automotive masking and surface protection. Withstands drying temperatures of up to 60 °C for 60 minutes, with good adhesion to smooth and slightly rough surfaces.
- Medium: SCP087RS (orange) and SCP088RS (green). For flexible masking during repairs. The coloured crêpe backing provides good visibility while masking and is moisture-resistant. Withstands drying temperatures of up to 90 °C for 30 minutes, with strong adhesion for repair work.
- Premium: SCP097RS (orange) and SCP098RS (green). For high-performance masking. UV-resistant for up to 7 days, water-resistant and able to withstand drying temperatures of up to 100 °C for 30 minutes, with high adhesion.
All three levels are compatible with common paint systems and, when used correctly, can be removed cleanly.
Sharp lines: fineline tapes
For razor-sharp colour separations, fineline tapes with a thin PVC backing are the standard. Our FLT730RB has been developed specifically for multi-colour paintwork on plastic parts such as bumpers. The tape is extremely thin, follows the material as it changes shape during oven or UV drying, and leaves no adhesive residue after removal. Wet sanding is also possible, and the tape is suitable for water-based paints.
For masking at higher temperatures, the FLT720RB is the answer. Its rubber adhesive withstands temperatures of up to 155 °C for 45 minutes, making this tape suitable for high-temperature masking in OEM production. Thanks to its flexible backing, the tape conforms effortlessly to curves, making it ideal for striping and decorative paintwork.
High temperature for drying ovens and powder coating
Modern spraying and coating processes rely on drying ovens in which temperatures rise considerably. A standard masking tape then loses its adhesion or leaves adhesive residue behind. High-temperature tapes remain stable under these conditions and can be removed in one go after the process. Read more in our blog on high-temperature tapes in production processes.
Double-sided tape for mounting and fixing
Beyond masking, tape also plays a role in assembly. Think of attaching emblems, trim strips and interior parts. Double-sided tapes create an invisible and durable bond here, without drilling or screws. To learn how to choose the right double-sided tape based on substrate, weight and temperature, read our earlier blog on the subject.
A strategic range for wholesalers
For wholesalers and suppliers to the automotive sector, a comprehensive tape range is an opportunity to stand out. In this market, technical performance outweighs the lowest price: a good tape prevents costly rework caused by paint bleed or damaged bodywork. With the three performance levels in our crêpe range, you can also offer a suitable product for every customer and application, from everyday masking to full resprays. We are happy to help you put together a range that matches the day-to-day reality of the workshop and the spray booth.
Tested in our own laboratory
Every automotive tape in our range is extensively tested in our own laboratory for adhesion, tensile strength and temperature resistance, among other properties. This means we know exactly which tape suits which process step, and we can advise you with confidence.
